HI New York City Hostel

"I stayed in a 6‑bed dorm at HI Hostel New York for 11 nights and overall had a great experience. The dorm rooms are spacious, comfortable, and come with privacy curtains, large lockers, and two pillows per bed. Housekeeping stops by daily to empty the bins, and the hostel has excellent facilities: a huge kitchen, plenty of fridges, a café, a bar, a massive smart TV, cheap laundry, a 24/7 self‑serve mini‑mart, strong WiFi, and loads of free events. The location is fantastic — just a very short walk to the subway and surrounded by places to eat and drink. For New York, the value for money is great. There are a few downsides. The common areas tend to be full of people on their phones or laptops, so it doesn’t always feel social. The bathrooms and showers seem to only get cleaned in the morning, so they can become dirty later in the day. Some guests also leave food packaging and rubbish in shared spaces, and a few don’t flush the toilets, which is frustrating. My suggestions: add signs reminding guests to clean up after themselves, increase cleaning rounds into the afternoon and evening, and consider creating a tech‑free social space to encourage actual conversation. Despite the issues, I highly recommend HI Hostel New York — it’s one of the best‑value stays in the city."

"A very vibrant hostel, with neat and clean dorms very close to the central park and metro line. The restrooms and showers can get busy though. They have activities planned everyday, which you may enjoy with longer stays. A cafe and a bar are nice too. Lockers are available inside the dorm rooms, which you may lock with your own lock. Recommend if you are traveling alone and looking for a affordable space."
